Adjustment of the Environmental Cost Surcharge

Beginning 29 October 2025 (date of ticket issuance), the Lufthansa Group airlines have changed the model and amount of the Environmental Cost Surcharge. The environmental cost surcharge is now levied on the basis of fixed surcharges for each travel route (origin & destination) – and no longer on the basis of the flight segments.

Additionally, the geographical area covered has changed. The Environmental Cost Surcharge will apply to all routes that include a departure from IATA Europe (Zone 210)*.

The amount of the Environmental Cost Surcharge depends on the travel class and the route, which is now divided into three fixed categories: domestic flights, short and medium-haul flights and long-haul flights.
