Eurowings will introduce the Optional Payment Charge (OPC) starting 12 February 2026
The introduction of the Optional Payment Charge (OPC) at Eurowings, which we had already announced in advance, will take place on 12 February 2026.*
The OPC is based on the requirements of the EU Payment Services Directive (PSD II). Certain card payments such as corporate cards or cards issued outside the European Economic Area (EEA) incur higher processing fees. The OPC ensures these costs are attributed to the payment methods that generate them. Private cards issued within the EEA are not affected by the OPC.
For those wishing to avoid additional charges, direct debit will continue to be available as a free payment option.
By adopting the Lufthansa Group’s unified rules, Eurowings provides an even clearer structure within the payment process.
*Please note that, during the technical implementation of the Optional Payment Charge (OPC), there may be short-term delays.
When will the Optional Payment Charge be applied?
The OPC will apply to bookings with point of origin (POO) in Germany, Denmark, Finland, Great Britain, Ireland, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland and the Czech Republic.
Corporate cards within the European Economic Area (EEA): An OPC applies to payments made with corporate cards (credit cards, prepaid cards or debit cards).
Corporate cards and cards outside the European Economic Area (EEA): An OPC applies to payments made with all corporate cards and cards (both personal credit cards and corporate cards).
What are the OPC fees?
- The OPC varies depending on the card brand and issuing country. The maximum amount depends on the currency and is: EUR 25 / GBP 20 / DK 190 / PLN 110 / NOK 290 / CZK 680 / USD 28 / CHF 24 / SEK 275 / AED 104 / HUF 10.124.
- The OPC is only charged when payments are processed in accordance with the Lufthansa Group Merchant Agreement.
- It applies uniformly across all transport sectors and booking classes – both for the initial booking and for subsequent seat reservations or additional payments as part of rebookings.
- In the event of cancellations, the OPC is non-refundable. Individual OPC amounts are reviewed regularly in line with market conditions and adjusted where required.
