FAQ – Optional Payment Charge (OPC) at Eurowings

From February 2026, Eurowings will apply a harmonised payment logic across all channels. The OPC is based on the EU Payment Services Directive (PSD II).
Certain types of card payments such as corporate cards or cards issued outside the European Economic Area (EEA) generate higher processing fees. The OPC ensures these costs are allocated to the payment methods that cause them.
For guests wishing to pay without additional fees, SEPA Direct Debit will remain available as a free payment option.

The OPC applies to bookings with point of origin (POO) in: Germany, Denmark, Finland, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland and the Czech Republic.

Corporate cards within the European Economic Area (EEA): An OPC applies to payments made with corporate cards (credit cards, prepaid cards or debit cards).

Corporate cards and cards outside the European Economic Area (EEA): An OPC applies to payments made with all corporate cards and cards (both personal credit cards and corporate cards).

Yes. This includes seat reservations or any additional payments as part of a rebooking.

No, the OPC is non-refundable.

The OPC is displayed as a separate item during the payment process and processed using the Lufthansa Group merchant agreement logic.

If you use your own integration (API, Direct Connect), please ensure that your systems can process the OPC as an additional fee item.

Yes, test environments will be provided via the Tech Partner communication.

The OPC appears as its own cost item on the confirmation.

For mixed payments, the OPC is calculated proportionally.

Calculation follows the same logic as in the original booking.

Yes, the OPC applies regardless of any existing commercial conditions.

No, the OPC cannot be discounted.
